SUMMARY:IRAs Part 3: Distributions to IRA Owners and Beneficiaries - October 15 - 2.5 CISP Credits
DESCRIPTION:IRA Distributions are the subject that breeds the most questions. There have been three different ages in the last five years determining when IRA owners must begin mandatory distributions from their IRAs. It’s been difficult to explain the difference between when the new regulation becomes “effective” vs. when the regulation will actually “affect” an IRA owner. \nIn addition\, the original SECURE Act 2020 eliminated the “stretch payout” for most non-spouse beneficiaries but left a big gap in the understanding of when the beneficiary has to actually start mandatory distributions. After releasing the Proposed Regulations in 2022 to change the beneficiary payout requirements\, they were finalized in July 2024 and made effective 2025. \nWe will summarize the differences between the SECURE Act of 2020\, the Proposed Regulations of 2022\, the Final Regulations released in 2024\, and the SECURE Act 2.0 in 2023. Each beneficiary payout option will be thoroughly discussed.

SUMMARY:Appraisal Bias\, Automated Valuation Models (AVMs)\, and Reconsiderations of Value (ROVs): How Should We Handle This? - October 9 - 2.5 CRCM Credits
DESCRIPTION:Last year\, the regulatory agencies\, as well as HUD\, FHFA\, and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac\, issued their Final Interagency Guidance on ROVs\, which creates clear expectations on mortgage lenders to formulate and execute programs to provide customers with access to ROV requests\, as well as how to handle them once received. Final regulations were issued regarding AVMs as well to ensure they are not subject to conflict or bias. \nThere are a number of disclosure requirements that go along with this\, as a means to notify customers that they have the ability contest an appraisal if they wish. Then\, what do you do if the appraisal is in fact fatally flawed? Should (or can) you order a new one? What about charging the borrower a fee for that second one? Doesn’t that fly in the face of appraiser independence? \nIn this webinar\, we’ll address all these important questions\, as well as provide practical advice on how to incorporate this critical new requirement into your lending program.

SUMMARY:The State of UDAAP: Where Are We Now with All the Regulatory Changes? - October 3 - 2.5 CRCM Credits
DESCRIPTION:Institutions must be familiar with the standard means for compliance and the risk management process\, as well as what is important today in this dynamic regulatory environment. This has been a major cultural shift in the regulatory function\, and we’ll delve into how to identify UDAP/UDAAP\, how to monitor and test for it\, and where particular risks are found\, among other topics.

SUMMARY:Avoiding Check Fraud Liability: From Prevention to Loss Allocation - October 2
DESCRIPTION:Check fraud losses are estimated to exceed $18 billion each year. With more and more altered and counterfeit checks flooding financial institutions\, this number is sure to increase. \nUnfortunately\, many financial institutions fail to teach front-line staff the fundamentals of avoiding check fraud. Further\, when a loss does occur\, some institutions don’t understand how the law allocates the loss. \nIf you’re confused about what your financial institution can do to prevent losses\, as well as what your legal responsibility might be in various check fraud situations\, this seminar is for you. This session will focus on the best practices that can be employed by institutions rather than looking at any particular state’s laws.
