The Treasury Department has announced the creation of the new position of IRS chief executive officer and selected Frank Bisignano, the Commissioner of the Social Security Administration, to fill it. Prior to the selection, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent was leading the IRS as Acting Commissioner.

Bisignano will manage the organization and day-to-day operations of the IRS while also continuing to serve in his role as Commissioner of the Social Security Administration.
