Senator Tillis Proposes Legislation to Limit ‘De-Banking’

Senator Thom Tillis has released a discussion draft of proposed legislation to address alleged de-banking by banks and banking regulators. He proposes a federal fair access standard that would apply to banks with more than $100 billion in total assets and to banks controlled by a holding company with aggregate total assets of more than $100 billion. He also proposes new accountability for banking agencies and proposes a series of other changes, such as updating currency transaction report thresholds to $45,000.
